The function of the self-adjusting arm in the braking process of the front axle of the car

Nov 12, 2021

1. Turn the adjusting nut clockwise until the brake shoe is in contact with the brake drum, and then turn the adjusting nut counterclockwise a full circle to make the gap between the brake drum and the brake shoe larger than the set gap. (You should hear a clicking sound during the rotation.)

2. Step on the brake to fully brake the front axle of the car, then release it, and brake for several times to fully adjust the self-adjusting arm.

3. During the brake release process, observe the rotation of the adjusting hex nut (put a wrench on the hex nut or draw a line, it will be easier to observe). The adjustment nut rotates, indicating that the gap is greater than the set gap of the self-adjusting arm, and the self-adjusting arm is adjusting to compensate for this gap. In the following brake release process, the adjustment amount and push rod stroke will slowly decrease until the set gap is reached.

4. If the adjustment nut does not rotate, if the basic brake components are checked and there is no problem but the adjustment nut still does not rotate, check the control arm and the fixing bracket to see if there is any damage, bending or damage to the components. If the control arm and fixed bracket are in good condition, the self-adjusting arm and corresponding accessories need to be replaced.
