The driving speed of a commercial vehicle is determined by the speed ratio of the rear axle

Nov 15, 2021

The automobile rear axle speed ratio is the gear ratio of the main reducer in the automobile drive axle. It is equal to the ratio of the rotational angular velocity of the drive shaft to the rotational angular velocity of the axle shaft, and it is also equal to the ratio of their rotational speed.

The driving speed of a commercial vehicle = engine speed/gear ratio/transaxle speed ratio * tire diameter. When the truck enters the high-end, the rear axle speed ratio determines the truck's high speed per hour. The lower rear axle speed ratio is higher than the higher speed. The torque is small, on the contrary, the vehicle speed is small but the torque output is large. If the speed ratio of the rear axle is increased, the single-stage main reduction axle needs larger teeth, the ground clearance of the truck becomes smaller, and the passing performance is poor. The wheel-side reducer is a good solution to this contradiction. A reduction gear is added between the axle head of the wheel and the wheel. The diameter of the main reducer cone is reduced, the axle is raised, and the passability is improved. Can adapt to various complex road conditions.

However, because the structure of the wheel reduction bridge is more complicated, its self-heavy weight, low mechanical efficiency, large energy loss, and fuel consumption are high. At the same time, the heat generation is due to the high temperature of the wheel end, which is prone to puncture.

The selection of the rear axle should be based on the specific transportation needs

The single reduction bridge is suitable for road transportation with high transmission efficiency and can reduce fuel consumption. The wheel reduction bridge is suitable for vehicles with bad road conditions. The wheel reduction bridge can improve the passing performance and output a larger torque.

1. Plain areas with better road conditions:

That is, it is strongly recommended to use single-stage reduction axles for those who often drive on first-class highways and highways with less up and down slopes or relatively gentle slopes. The advantage is that the transmission efficiency is high and fuel saving. In the same way, because the wheel reduction bridge is running at high speed (above 100Km/h), the problem of high wheel end temperature is currently not well solved by domestic axle companies, and high temperature will easily lead to tires. Even punctures and bearings burned to death.

2. The road conditions are slightly poor, or there are often long up and down slopes, or heavy-duty trucks:

The decision will be made based on the actual road conditions, the size of the ramp, and the overload situation. But in general, the axle load of the 13T class ¢460 single axle must be controlled within 32T, that is to say, the load distributed on the last two drive axles of the 8X4 truck must be controlled within 64T.
